Taking Up Space

Taking Up Space was a project done in collaboration with Rialto Youth Project as part of the Dublin 8 Neighbourhood Residency, a NCAD Studio + residency supported by Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts.

These drawings were one of a few iterations of a process undertaken with young women and youth workers in Rialto Youth Project. This process explored the young women’s experiences with gender based violence.

These drawings were done in public spaces where the young women had experienced violence.

This work is credited to the intensive collaborative work of the young women and their deep embedded knowledge.

This method of kinetic drawing is directly inspired by Heather Hansen’s “Emptied Gestures” series. studioheatherhansen.com
